Volume 13 - Number 26

Doing What the Lord Said

Have you done what the Lord said?

Have I done what the Lord requires of me?

Does it really matter?

Friends, doing the will of God is so important that Jesus once said, "And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?" (Luke 6:46). Obedience is clearly demanded in many passages in the New Testament. It is not only the entrance into the church, but by obedience one is granted the right to the tree of life, and an entrance into heaven itself.

"Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have a right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city." Revelation 22:14

It is a plain contradiction of the word of God for one to say that men are saved by faith only (James 2:24).

    1. One must obey to enter the kingdom, (Matthew 7:21).
    2. One cannot be a servant of the Lord Jesus Christ without obeying His will, (Romans 6:16), "His servants ye are to whom ye obey."
    3. The foundation of the Christian life cannot be laid without obedience, (Matthew 7:24-27).
    4. Christ is the author of eternal salvation, only to those that obey Him, (Hebrews 5:8,9).

If one still contends in the face of all these scriptures that a believer is saved without obedience, why did Jesus say that "He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved" (Mark 16:16)?

Have you obeyed the Lord?
