Here and Now

Psychologist William Marston asked three thousand people, "What are you living for?" The surprising results of the survey revealed that 94 percent of those surveyed were merely enduring the present moment while waiting for the future. They were waiting for something to happen - waiting for next year - waiting for a better time - waiting for tomorrow. What most do not realize is all that they will ever have is the present - today. Yesterday is past; tomorrow is a dream; now is the only reality. Try as they may, no one can live in "rewind" or "fast-forward"; we can remember the past; dream of tomorrow, but we must live in the present.

The plain and undeniable fact is that today is the only guaranteed time. Allow no one and no thing to ruin the day you have. Our world is saturated with perils, problems and perplexities over which we have only limited control. But we can always control how we react and respond to unwelcome negative circumstances. The Psalmist said, "This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it" (Psalm 118:24). The apostle of love declared, "greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world" (1 John 4:4). John also wrote, "This is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith" (1 John 5:4).

Baptized into Christ ...

On Monday, Pansy McCord and her daughter, Barbara Gibbs, were baptized into Christ for the remission of their sins. They have worshipped with us for some time and came to their realization of their need to be baptized into Christ in accord with the word of God. We appreciate their humble hearts and courage to obey God. Be sure to meet these two new sisters in Christ and give them a warm welcome in the body of Christ here in Venice.

Building Program: This past week we received our plans from the architect. We also have our permit from the Southwest Florida Water Management District. The engineers have applied for our permit to hook up to city water and we should be in a position to apply for our building permit and begin getting bids on the work.
