Elders

Last Sunday we concluded our studies on the eldership. At this time, we would like to ask members of the congregation to submit the names of any men that meet the qualifications of elders and could serve the congregation in this capacity.

Below is a list of the qualifications of elders as found in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9. We ask that you study these thoroughly and consider these qualifications as you submit names. We ask that names be submitted in writing.

Please submit any names to Jim Treece, Clarence Riggenbach or Jim Dougan.

We ask that all names be submitted by March 26th.

After the names are submitted - the men whose names are submitted, will be contacted as to whether they would desire to serve in this capacity. The names of those who would be willing to serve and are scripturally qualified would then be placed before the congregation again—to allow time to see if there are any scriptural objections to someone serving as an elder.

Following the above procedures, if there are men who are scripturally qualified and willing to serve as elders, a date will be set for their formal appointment as elders of the church of Christ of Venice.

Violins & Christians

Centuries ago there lived in Italy a maker of violins, Antonio Stradivarius. When he became able to have a work shop of his own he made it a rule, that no violin should ever leave the shop until it was as near to perfection as human care and skill could make it. He said,

“God needs violins to send his music into the world, and if my violins are defective, God’s music will be spoiled.”

More than violins, God needs Christians to send the gospel light into all the world (Mark 16:15-16; Mat. 28:19-20). God needs genuine Christians. Christians that are full of faith and good works. Christians that are a light to a world that is lost (Mat. 6:14-16).

As Christians, if we are not what we should be, our Christian light will be spoiled (Cf. 2 Cor. 4:3). If we have the wrong attitude, offensive speech and sinful habits—all of these will destroy the influence that God wants us each of us to have. Let us strive to truly be Christians.

Ghana ...

64 baptized from three villages near Bunkpurugu. This is one of the towns that we preached and conducted a mobile medical clinic in last year. Children hauled water from a well in a donkey cart to fill the portable baptistry. There was such interest that the baptistry was left there. Bunkpurugu is located on the Togo border and will be a launching point for us to reach out into that area in the future.

Hopeless situations are reminders that we are helpless without God.
