My Sons, No Longer My Children

His name is "Time." He's a stranger we would like to ignore but cannot avoid, an intruder from whom we cannot protect our families.

For years our family has been blest by three wonderful sons! But, now, one has been married for several years, a second is to marry in a few days, and a third is soon to make his way to college. What happened?

"Time" paid a visit to our house, took our boys by the hand, and escorted them into adulthood. That has away of sending one's thoughts down memory lane." So, if you will indulge the sentimental reflections of an ole dad, when I look back on yesterday:

He's a tough rascal to deal with, but one thing can help: beautiful memories. Not even death can erase the pictures of happiness a family helps paint on the canvas of one another's heart! Dan Winkler

Doing Our Best

“When I was eleven years old, I skated my 1st national championship. I thought I was going to win, but I came in 2nd. My dad supported and encouraged us, but he always kept things in perspective. As I was waiting for some great words of wisdom from him, he said, ‘There’s more to life than skating around in a circle.’ This upset me because I thought he didn’t have any idea how important this was to me. But in 1988, when my sister died of leukemia, I understood what he meant. We need to be able to learn something from any situation. It is easy to take something good from a positive situation, but we also need to know how to learn from difficult times. When people think of me, I would like to be remembered as someone who never gave up. I never lost hope, but more importantly, I skated my best, not only when I won the gold medal, but also those times when I fell or was beaten. Each time it was the same for me; it was the best that I had to give.” (Dan Jansen, Olympic Gold Medalist)

The Bible says it this way: “Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with all thy might…” (Ecclesiastes 9:10)

Remember, the important thing in life is how we conduct ourselves, win, lose or draw. By being true to God and always trying to do our best, we’ll never disappoint our parents, others and more importantly ourselves!
