Angry Words

A careless word may kindle strife; A cruel word may wreck a life.
A bitter word may hate instill; A brutal word may smite and kill.
A gracious word may smooth the way; A joyous word may light the day.
A timely word may lessen stress; A loving word may heal and bless.

If you will take the word "anger" and examine it, you'll find it is only one letter short of spelling "danger." Note the following quotes:

“Anger is an acid that will do more harm to the vessel in which it is stored than anything on which it is poured.”

“When you give someone a piece of your mind - you lose your peace of mind.”

“We never weather the storm by storming at the weather.”

“Anything which can be accomplished through anger can better be accomplished some other way.”

Cross Words

The cross word never made a friend.
It never earned a cent.
It never made a house a home.
It never brought content.

It never made a poor man laugh,
nor made a rich man grin.
It never caused an honest act,
nor kept a soul from sin.

It never made a baby coo,
nor made a sick child smile.
It never pleased the virtuous;
It never pleased the vile.

In fact, the cross word is about
the one thing on this earth.
That we can get along without
because it has no worth.

There are two Bible verses, one in the Old and one in the New Testament which, if remembered, would help us prevent the utterance of angry words.

"Be not rash with thy mouth, and let not thine heart be hasty to utter any thing before God: for God is in Heaven, and thou upon earth: therefore let thy words be few." (Ecclesiastes 5:2)

"Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath." (James 1:19)

In the third chapter of the book of James, the tongue of man is compared to the bits in a horse's mouth - a small instrument by which the large animal is controlled. The tongue is also likened unto a ship's rudder-again, a small device which steers a great vessel. Still again, James compared the tongue with a fire which has a small beginning but which can rage out of control very quickly and easily.

Angry words have broken countless homes, caused innumerable murders and have been responsible for untold and inestimable hurt and suffering in this old world. As the hymn says, "Angry words, O let them never, from a tongue unbridled slip."
