Qualifications of Elders

Qualifications of Elders Elders are selected by the congregation, the whole congregation; but before a man is selected, he must possess all of the Biblical qualifications. If he does not, no amount of "selecting" and "appointing" will make him an elder.

Don't Give Up

Samuel Johnson wrote, “Great works are performed, not by strength, but by perseverance.” Calvin Coolidge said, “Nothing in the world can take the place of perseverance. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan ‘press on’ has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.”

At the Battle of Waterloo, the British soldiers were not any braver than Napoleon’s troops but it is said that they were brave five minutes longer. When James C. Corbett was boxing’s heavyweight champion, someone asked him, “What is the most important thing to be a champion?” He replied, “The willingness to fight one more round.”

Madam Curie, worked through four winters in an old shed, the best laboratory she could afford. With her bare hands she shoveled ton after ton of raw uranium ore in and out of her “lab “ before she finally succeeded in isolating one decigram of Radium. That is perseverance!

The reason that so many fail is the lack of perseverance. This is the reason why so many marriages fail. The number of suicides that we see today are often the stories of people who have “given up”. There are millions of others in the world, while they have not contemplated suicide, have given up on many worthwhile endeavours. Some Christians have even given up their faith.

Young people, never, never give up. Never give up on yourself, Never give up on your family. Never give up in your studies and your quest for knowledge. Never give up on your dreams. And never, never give up on your Lord. The Bible tells us, “Be ye steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord...” (1 Cor. 15:58).
